The status in quo of the electric hoverboard industry
Abstract: According to the statistics, the shipment quantity of Segway is only 30,000 from 2001 to 2007, and Solowheel's shipment quantity of electric unicycles is over 10,000 last year. In the industry, the high price, unclear positioning limits the self-balancing scooter to luxury plaything.
But in the past two years, there are more and more electric self-balancing scooter manufacturers worldwide and prices have been lowered to reasonable prices.
The shipment quantity of Segway is only 30,000 from 2001 to 2007, and Solowheel's shipment quantity of electric unicycles is over 10,000 last year according to the statistics.
At present, most of the electric scooter' occupation areas are equivalent to the width of the medium size of a person. Therefore, for modern congested traffic, electric scooters do satisfy the original design concept: segue human transporter. It is powered by lithium battery, and a single charge can guarantee the mileage of 20-70km, with the maximum speed of up to 20km.
In addition, products are mostly equipped with three to five precision solid-state sensing instruments to control the scooter. For instance, the Airwheel self-balancing electric scooter is adopting the aerospace attitude control theory, fuzzy software algorithm and gyroscope system to maintain balance by leaning forward and backward. Compared with the traditional means of transport, electric scooters mobility is relatively stronger.
However, there are also market limitations. First, it is the technological monopoly of major corporations. In fact, it needs a long period from R & D to real marketing including electric hoverboard. Large companies must gain its early investment through technical patent monopoly. Secondly, the marketing system is chaos, as most of them only have online sales platform and servicing system is inadequate. Thirdly, it is the government restrictions. For the new intelligent electric hoverboard companies, there are only two choices: either buy patent, or research and develop independently. And for consumers, they cannot be expected to pick up big cheap in a short term.
